Emoting, Enunciating & Expressing (Calibrating the variance between what you want and what you expressEmoting,

Self-Reflections/Takeaways-

From the video I came to know that there are many ways by which we can improve our voice’s sound . One of those ways is the humming exercise, which can help those who want to deepen their voice. Just hum to the lowest node you could and identify the vibrating muscle on your chest while you hum on your lowest mode and next thing you have to do is to relax that muscle. This exercise can really help us to deepen our voice. The Q, E and R exercise can also be effective .

Discussion:

The Power of Silence | Neal Gittleman | TEDxDayton

Self Reflections/ Takeaways:

  • Silence is an important element of music. Music is made up of notes. But when there aren’t notes, there are rests. And every rest is a silence.

  •  Four minutes and 33 seconds is about going inside yourself – like the monks – and opening yourself up to the music of the world around you, even if it’s cars and buses in the streets .

  • When silence does find you, try not to fill it.

  • ·Don’t sit back and relax. Sit up and listen like your life depends on it.

Post session Activity:

Video Assignment: Answer “How can you use silence as an effective communication tool?”

Self Reflections/ Takeaways:

In the above video we can find the greatest of all time silent comedian , Charlie Chaplin's fun acting without using a single word. He can be seen using various kind of facial expressions as well as body movements which cleary indicates how afraid he is when he enters a lion's cage by mistake .Even without a single word, we are able understand that he trying to every possible way to get out of the cage without waking up the lion. In the end also, we can see how he acts in a way to impress lady, even though he was scrared by the lion's roar. Thus, the video is a clear example that silence can be used as an effective way of communication to convey your message.

(i)My Learning Takeaways or Life Lessons from the Guest Talk-

  • With everything around us changing and evolving, one thing should never change and that is ‘LEARNING’.

  • Learning in an elevated manner means learning after knowing what’s your purpose.

  • Understanding the importance of basic things and basic necessities in your life is most important, no matter how much rich you are.

  • The feeling you have when you try to bring a slight change in someone’s life is much above and much more than materialtic things.

  • We should try to team up with the people, our environment , find a purpose and contribute something to the planet, to our country. That’s why life skills are really important in one’s life.

(ii)How can I relate the Guest Talk to the course ‘Living Conversations’ –

I can completely relate this Guest talk with our course ‘Living Conversations’ because Sir, Sunil Rai talked about life skills and their importance in one’s life and that was the reason School Of Life was established this year in UPES so that the students not only have academic knowledge but also know about themselves, develop skills and new persepective towards things . And our course Living Conversations has been doing the same from the last 14 weeks . Thus, the Guest Talk also helped me to clear my vision about this subject and what it expects from us.

(iii)What I liked most about the Guest Talk-

There are multiple things which I liked about the Guest Talk. First being the friendly, kind and understanding nature of our honourable VC , Dr. Sunil Rai. He knows how to interact with students in a way that students understands better. He talked to students by keeping him on the same level as students while he talked, considering the position he holds.Secondly,I really liked  his thoughts about money ,that money is important but not more important than the basic things in our life and also our learning. Finally, I loved how he motivated us to try to become a change maker, a contributor and a be proud of what we are instead of comparing ourselves with others. This way, the Guest Talk was very inspiring and worth attending.

Self Reflections on Weekly Sessions Of Week 10

This week was a complete flashback to our school days junior classes as we all studied about something we had totally forgot and that are syllable, stress and innotations. Learning about these was a complete revision of English grammar. While the session was completely enlightning, at the same time it made me realise that we generally miss on thes important parts of speech while speaking or reading something , but if we follow them, out word would be clear and more understandable.
